The 20 strength is for the washing pole + 15. Take note that if you decide to use the washing pole, you can still ninja role if you un-equip the shadow gloves and the black Bow of Pharis.
The Hornet Ring can be replaced with another ring of course. You could use Ring of Favor and Protection (or Havel's Ring) if you wanted to equip armor that is a little heavier and still ninja flip
