I've never been comfortable with full mage characters, but didn't want to put tons of points into dex to use a bow and do ACTUAL damage, thus the battlemage. Can fight short-mid range, or, if you can free-aim, long range. 39 poise so you don't get stun locked after a rat bumps into you Velka's rapier works great for magic using classes due to the B-ranked bonus from int, which combined with Tin Crys.Catalyst and Crys. Magic Weapon.... well you will do a LOT of damage, especially if combined with red tearstone or Hornet ring.
