Here's a relatively easy to make, but effective build good for both co-op and also PVP. The concept is simple: how to maximize your Obsidian Greatsword effect.
First off, the Obisidian Greatsword doesn't scale with stats, but when max'd has a respectable 480 attack. What makes this weapon so effective is not only the Bastard Sword-like swings, but the fact that it can be buffed and when held 2-hand, one of the attacks send a black flame area attack.
So, the concept is to figure out how to max the damage, especially for the area attack, while keeping your level low enough to co-op and PVP. This build is leveled at 30 which means you can match make pretty much all the way to Anor Londo which should be more than enough for co-op. For PVP, since you need to be Path of the Dragon, use the Cracked Red Eye Orb to go PVP-ing anywhere.
As for attack, you're leveled enough to use multiple buff effects. It doesn't have to be set like this, but this character can cast Power Within, then you can cast or buff your weapon (this character can use Crystal Magic Weapon!) and then during battle, use your Dragon Roar to do an even bigger boost to attack. Heck, with just the CMW your attack will bump above 700 and if everything is played right, you should be able to make minced-meat out of anyone or anything with just spamming the area attack (of course, savvy players know how to avoid, so you'll have to be careful).
One other thing good about this is that, in Path of Dragon, with full dragon form you don't have good defense, but since you're low level, odds are likely you'll have fair fight against others.
So go on and try this out. I've kept one slot dedicated for this build since and it's been fun. Praise the damn sun!
