Pretty much all you need to know is to be very wary of your opponent when you strike, as you will be wide open, try and poison the enemy, and kite them, while chipping away at their health with your arrows.
The main idea to have weapons on you for extra, is when your opponent gets used to you only ranged attacks, then all of the sudden you go up and back stab them. It is really fun, and definitely challenging.
