This mage is a perfect balance of casting and swordsmenship.
His equip load is perfectly balanced to fast roll.
Defense is 278
Magic def 212 (thus the use of crest shield)
Flame def 250
Lightning def 292
He IS a caster not a tank so physical defense is low but with speed you can avoid being hit... and speed this mage has.
I also switch the weapon between moonlight great sword or scythe.
Having elemental wpns helps. I have mine equiped with enchanted bastard sword +5 and lightning bastard sword +5 and enchanted scythe +5 and chaos scythe +5. Grass crest shield is another good one and so is the balder shield (youll have to equip the scythe to still fast roll). Balder shield works nice in areas like bed of chaos where you need good stability.
Chaos weapons are always better than fire weapons so long as you are good enough to maintain 10 humanity.
In early game i actually start the mage with a raw bastard sword which i use magic weapon on until being able to make it lightning.
Early game main focus is endurance and vitality and alittle intelligence (22 is good) until around level 70 then you start adding in the attunement and intelligence.
Early build is basically a spellsword with variations of soul arrows to help the cause. Its a tougher start for a less experienced player but the end result is a diabolical champion in PVP and PVE.
Leaving the intelligence at 44 and giving those points to vitality is crucial to the build. 50 intelligence does not up spell strength enough to care and crystal dragona breath really isnt worth it.
Having 1405 hit points though? Youll be happy about that since your physical defense IS lower than a warrior and in NG5 where my mage is? Its pretty much necessary.
The wolf ring is great for this build giving him an instant 40 poise ao your casts may remain uninterrupted but when you must switch a ring for something like artorias covenant, this is the one o swap. Just cast like hell and keep your distance.
