Evade, block, counter, and backstab/parry/riposte are all the key movements you'll need. Also carry as many rings of sacrifice/ rare version as you can get. Upgrade your stuff as early as possible. A great tip they don't tell you: get master key as gift, go through valley of drakes, run all the way to darkroot basin, avoid black knight, run up to the longbow and you're safe. Run up to undead parish bonfire, kill the 3 hollow soldiers, lure out big guy, run in hugging right side of area aka if you go anywhere near church pews, you're going the wrong way, grab firekeeper's soul, should have two by now, jump on elevator, hit up firelink's bonfire, bam you're done.
