Imagine an alternate universe where Laurentius prepped a bit before adventuring into Blighttown. A universe where he nabbed a Falchion from one of those skellies in the graveyard near Firelink and trained up his Dex so that he could have some decent melee ability. Then he saved up his allowance and bought both of Griggs' rings to boost his Pyromancies. He also nabbed the Spider Shield during his trip through the Depths on the way to Blighttown to mitigate those pesky blowdart jerks.
Then he finds Quelaana and she agrees to teach him some dank pyromancies, as well as ascend his flame. The result is a Laurentius who is actually kind of badass.
