For advanced players: Use burg (ember) skip and sen's skip to make the sword early
Large titanite shards - 6 (2 in chest, 4 in 2 corpses) in sens; 2 near sorcerer in depths-- total of 8.
*to make a +10 katana, you only need one more which you can buy (8,000 souls) in anor londo or get from crystal lizards (undead burg, darkroot basic, great hollow).
For better survivability: You can switch some points from Dex (down to 45 or 40) and Fai (down to 45 or 40) to Vit.
