We use Artorias Greatshield because it has the highest stability and good fire defence. The goal is to avoid hitpoint damage and have stamina take all the blows. Mask of the child, green crest shield, and optionally green blossoms further bolster effective hitpoints with stamina regen.
Dingy robe and maiden skirt are best in their respective slots for lightning def and magic def, damage types our shield largely fails to mitigate. Guardian gauntlets are bis for lit+mag tes
The stoneplate ring should be hotswapped for mag/lit res ring as needed.
If you want more vit then take points out of endurance. This is the minimum str to use the shield 2h and the minimum dex to use the zwei.
