- 36 poise useful against turtle kumo
- thorns gaunts helps to damage cancel bses and can be used to get tick backstabs off of blockstun
- black flame + great combustion gives more versatility, black flame is superior at crushing guard and has superior poise break, however the superior damage of great combustion can be useful in situation where it is adequate to poise break or it would kill when black flame wouldn't (ringswapping to bellowing dragoncrest can help here)
- menuswap mom mask to dusk crown after you take damage, or to painting guardian hood for mag def if your fighting a build heavily reliant on mag damage
- can also be used as silver knight spear build
- if end is pumped up to 53 you can use bk shield estoc thorns sunmom (east west shield recommended for 53 end over small leather) with end at 51 you can still do this if you drop the bandit's knife, or if you go for knightmom with ek gaunts instead of thorns
- can swap to black sorc cloak and stone leggings for mag defense optimization, or dingy robe leather gaunts and havel's legs if you're okay with ditching thorns
